Touching the Sky: A small Journey Through Tzoumerka

Today we embarked on a breathtaking journey to literally touch the sky. Our adventure took us through the rugged “Tzoumerka” mountains, over the spectacular “Baros Pass”, and into the charming stone village of “Kalarrytes”.

Our mountain odyssey began from our cozy base in “Katafyto” village nestled in the heart of Aspropotamos. The morning air was crisp with promise as we set off on winding mountain roads.

As we climbed higher into the clouds, we paused to marvel at the Monastery of Panagia Galaktoforousa, its ancient stones currently being lovingly restored to their former glory. The monastery seemed to emerge from the mountainside itself, a testament to centuries of faith carved into the landscape.

The ascent continued until we finally crested the legendary “Baros Pass” at 1,910 meters above sea level. Standing there, surrounded by nothing but endless peaks and azure sky, we truly felt like we had reached the top of the world – close enough to brush the clouds with our fingertips.

Crossing over into Epirus, we descended toward the traditional village of “Kalarrytes,” where time seems to have stood still among its stone houses and cobbled paths. There, perched on our mountain-view terrace, we savored rich Greek coffee while the spectacular panorama of valleys and peaks stretched endlessly before us.
