Flight of the Amazon Queen - Adventure Game

Revisiting one of my all-time favourite teenage adventure games — Flight of the Amazon Queen.

Flight of the Amazon Queen is a classic point-and-click adventure game from the early 90s that holds a very special place in my heart. It was one of my absolute favourites during my teenage years, and replaying it recently brought back all that joy — it’s just as fun as I remembered.

The Story

You play as Joe King, a wisecracking pilot who crash-lands his plane deep in the Amazon jungle. What starts as a simple rescue mission quickly spirals into a wild adventure involving a mad scientist, dinosaurs, and — naturally — the mythical Amazon tribe. It’s B-movie cheese at its finest, and it absolutely knows it.

The tone is light-hearted and humorous throughout. Don’t expect a grim thriller; expect puns, quirky characters, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

How It Plays

This is a classic point-and-click adventure in the tradition of LucasArts and Sierra games. You click your way through beautifully hand-drawn scenes, pick up items, combine them, and talk to characters to solve puzzles and advance the story.

The puzzles are satisfying without being brutally unfair — a refreshing balance that keeps the game moving. There’s no dead-end trap waiting to ruin your save, which makes exploration feel free and fun.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a fan of classic adventure games and haven’t played this one yet, you’re missing out. And if — like me — you played it as a kid, it’s absolutely worth revisiting.

My verdict: A gem of the genre. Play it.
